When Passion Meets the 9 to 5 Wall

You ever get that feeling — like today’s the day you’ll finally sit down and make real progress on that idea that’s been living in your brain for months?

And then… you glance at the clock and it’s already 8 PM. You’ve answered a thousand emails, sat through far too many meetings, and barely had enough energy to make dinner for the family.

Yeah. Same here.

Batch is our passion project we keep dreaming about. It lights us up. It’s the kind of thing we think about while folding laundry or walking the dog. We know the potential it has, but you know what it doesn’t have?

Time.

Because even when we technically have time in the evenings or weekends, our brains are fried. Out of creative juice. The thought of opening up that sketch or prototype feels more like a chore than a joy. And that sucks — because we want to do this thing.

We’ve realized something recently: It’s not about lacking motivation. It’s not even about discipline. It’s about capacity. Working a full-time job—especially one that demands a lot mentally—leaves very little room for passion to thrive. And that's before factoring in the other roles we play: caring for children, aging parents, or simply navigating the complexities of adulting.

The day job pays the bills, but it also swallows the hours, the energy, and the space where the magic happens. Trying to balance a full-time job, a passion project, and the responsibilities of everyday life sometimes feels like juggling three jobs at once.

So, what now?

Honestly, we don’t have a clean solution. No shiny life hack. Just a reminder that if you’re feeling this too, you’re not lazy. You’re just human. And trying to do multiple full-time jobs—your actual job, your dream, and the demands of life—is no small feat.

Still, we’re not giving up. Even if it’s 20 minutes at a time. Even if progress looks like standing still some weeks. The dream is still there, and it’s still worth it.  So as summer kicks off for us, just know we’re still at it and still chipping away at all the ideas we’ve been day dreaming about. New stuff soon, we’re just moving a little slower right now. Thanks for being a part of the journey with us.
